Mouse on Mars – Dimensional People
In the middle of rehearsal week of the 2016 festival, this jam session took place. Justin, Aaron and co returned to the studio of Andi and Jan, where André de Ridder had introduced them a couple of months before.
That morning feels like an important step along the way in the creation of Dimensional People, the expansive new Mouse on Mars album which features a band of collaborators, many of whom were in that Funkhaus studio 18 months ago. The album was mixed using fascinating cutting-edge ‘spatial sound’ technology. It removes the stereo perspective – you have the experience of being inside the sound. It’s explained more in the video below.
“Music is a strong anarchic force,” said Jan in this piece in the New York Times. “It’s probably our last bastion of anarchic wilderness, that trace of nature that keeps just growing, keeps crossbreeding, keeps immigrating and migrating and cross-fertilizing and expanding our perceptual apparatus. It’s also a great means for orientation and for bonding with other people. We don’t have to think about music, we don’t have to talk about the term. Eventually we’ll find it, or it will find us.”
The album was in part recorded in the Overlook Studio on our 4th Floor. Azar did the design.
Dear friends, what a joy being part of this journey. To all the music that is and will be!
