For the eighth edition of the Mixtape Series, we present Cassette Heads — one of Berlin’s best-kept secrets and true mixtape aficionados. Founded in 2020 by a Finnish and two Australian musicians, this collective began as the house band for a weekly underground jam session, blending jazz, soul, hip-hop, and experimental sounds into something raw, spontaneous, and deeply soulful. Over time, they’ve cultivated a community around their shared love of tape culture, live improvisation, and offbeat locations — collaborating with artists like Milan Ring, Jeser Munk, Wayne Snow, Haile Supreme, Somadina and many others.
This open-air summer edition takes place in our beautiful courtyard, setting the stage for a warm and immersive night of collaboration and music. More than just a format, the mixtape here becomes a symbol of intimacy, spontaneity, and sonic exploration — perfectly embodied in the debut release from Simon Herody, a rising force in Berlin’s experimental scene. His first album, Hard Lounge, will be performed in full.
Simon, a young French musician and sound artist, is known for his emotionally rich, improvisation-driven performances that blend saxophone, piano, and flute with raw electronic textures and tape loops. Entirely self-taught, his work explores the intersection of memory, space, and deep listening — crafting meditative soundscapes that slow down time and dissolve the boundaries between genres.
Also joining Cassette Heads on stage is Mysha, a Berlin-based artist whose emotionally charged, lyrically honest German rap explores themes of identity, empowerment, and resilience. Raised near Frankfurt with roots in RnB and Neosoul, she brings great emotional depth and a powerful voice shaped by her lived experiences as a Black woman in Germany. With past performances at Fusion, Feel Festival, and Bucht der Träumer, Mysha has a gift for captivating audiences — whether on big stages or in intimate settings like this one.
Lithuanian multi-hyphenate Ugnė Uma will also perform, bringing her spellbinding live set shaped by 20th-century Lithuanian underground music, gospel, jazz, and experimental poetry. As a singer, DJ, and host of the radio show Hao Dao, her practice bridges archival soundscapes and contemporary electronics — often incorporating prepared piano, layered vocals, and textured collages into something uniquely her own.
To round out the night, DJs OSSIOS and NOB will guide the dancefloor through lush, deep selections spanning soul, ambient, global grooves, and leftfield electronics — keeping the spirit of the mixtape alive until late.
Expect a cast of special guests — both known and unknown — as we celebrate collaboration, community, and music under the summer sky.
