Lift Off Episode 7 – Matthias “Jonnie” Stieler

Matthias “Jonnie” Stieler is co-founder of Tresor, underground nightclub in Berlin and record label. Since 1991, Matthias experiences and shapes Berlin’s subculture, the “urbane Stadtkultur”. This urban culture is now fundamentally threatened. It has been systematically pushed back for years and, with Corona, the risk of losing what makes Berlin unique is higher than never.

We speak with Jonnie about the cultural diversity Berlin must preserve, this “new continent” of subculture it used to be and can still be, and the path to go forward. Forged by engaged citizens, Berlin can reclaim the Stadtkultur that defined it.
