What’s Happened
Terroir, Berlin, Food
The inaugural Terroir Berlin is taking place in the city right now. An international Chef’s Symposium, Terroir seems to be coming at just the right time for Berlin, as the city’s interest and involvement with the food world rapidly evolves. We hosted the Terroir guests for lunch in the restaurant on Sunday. There was also a small showcase of some of the incredible producers from the region, including some of the guys we work with – Our hunter Gido from Richard’s Wild, our farmer Roberto from Wilde Gärtnerei and Roel from Küstlichkeiten, where we get our amazing fish from.
Our chef Alan was one of the speakers at yesterday’s forum and touched on subjects such as kitchen culture in Berlin and what inspires and influences him. He says the biggest message he took away was the importance of sharing information. Not just with chefs, but with suppliers, customers and everybody associated with the business. This is the way to maintain growth and sustain the industry.
It seems everyone feels there’s a movement in Berlin and that there’s huge potential for the gastronomy industry here. The city has a unique feeling of community for those involved in the industry as it starts to really find its feet. Because there’s not a strong established identity in place yet, everybody can be involved in that evolution. We’re excited to be a little part of what happens next.
